Waxing Tips

Topical PFB
OUR #1 TIP

Ok, so, YES waxing can be a bit uncomfortable at times, but keeping these hints in mind will help to minimize discomfort and make your visit as pleasant as possible—and that is our goal!

Most of our clients rely on Numb-It Topical Numbing Cream. Seriously! When it comes to waxing, numbing is always a good thing! It must be applied 20 minutes prior to your service. It only takes a dab and a little goes a long way! We have it available here in the studio for purchase so, if you would like, come in 20 minutes early, apply your Numb It, and you'll be good to go!

IBUPROFEN ROCKS!
Ladies: Ibuprofen is a waxers best friend!
Taking 2-4 Ibuprofen 1 hour before your treatment goes a long way towards dulling pain receptors.  And, just to be clear, it's Ibuprofen you want, not Tylenol, not Excedrin — as long as it’s not contraindicated by your doctor! Not sure?
Please check with your doctor!

HOLD THE JOE!
On the day of your waxing, skip any caffeine or other stimulants until after your treatment, they stimulate your nervous system which we are trying to calm down!

HYDRATE!
A body that is fully hydrated allows the hair to slip right out of the follicle, and thats what we want right?
So a few days before your wax, and the day of, please be diligent with your water intake. Half your weight in ounces is best
For Example: a 128 lb gal would meet her daily requirement of H20 with 64 ounces. Easy Peasy, And Sooo worth it!
Drink Up Girls!

THAT TIME OF THE MONTH?
Try to schedule your treatment within the first two weeks after your cycle has ended. This is when you are retaining the least amount of fluid, and will be the most comfortable.

WHICH SERVICE IS GOOD FOR YOU?
If you are a waxing newbie, starting out "Foxy" (A Fabulous Wax client favorite) may be the best way to start your waxing journey. Gradually moving up to "The Fabulous Wax" (Brazilian) is much easier, and offers less discomfort, allowing for a more pleasurable waxing experience! If you are considering a waxing service for a special event, consider having the area waxed one month prior, as a trial run. This will give you an idea of how reactive your skin will be.

If all is well, then go ahead and schedule your appointment a few days before your special event the following month.

BEFORE WAXING!
For your first visit, please allow 1/2 to 1 inch of growth which usually takes about 2-3 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows. Doing so will provide a much cleaner wax! Your follow up treatments will require only a 1/4 of an inch growth which takes roughly 4 weeks.

Please stay out of the sun and tanning booths before your treatment. If you find yourself in the sun, please wear sunscreen to avoid hyperpigmentation, and reschedule your treatment after any effects from the sun have subsided.

Refrain from using self tanners, moisturizers, or any abrasive body or facial scrubs. Discontinue any products that exfoliate or dry out the skin approximately one week prior to your treatment. We don't want any scabs, tears or burning, which is possible if these products are being used in conjunction with waxing.

Some products that are contraindicated for waxing are: Antibiotics, Accutane, Retin-A, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acids,Tazorac,ProActive, Salicylic Acid, Avage, Differin,Strivectin, Renova, Avita, Benzoyle Peroxide, Apricot Scrubs, and Neutrogena Scrub.

These are only some of the products that we are aware of that may cause a problem and new ones come along every day. Your skin is precious to you—and us! Please check with your doctor if you have any doubts, or choose an alternative treatment for hair removal.

AFTER WAXING!
OK, so, the great thing about waxing—besides silky smooth skin, and no razor burn or itchy scratchy regrowth to deal with —
is how soft and fine your hair grows back. YAY, right?!

Vanishing Vanishing

Well, occasionally, because our hair is no longer coarse, it’s not able to push thru the skin like it used to, causing it to lay just under the skin causing a pesky ingrown hair. This usually doesn’t happen until you have a quite few waxes under your belt, and even then, it doesn't happen to everybody. The After Wax Care Bag you’ll be sent home with is usually sufficient to keep ingrowns at bay.

For you waxing veterans who feel you would benefit from a little extra help, we carry Mancine Ingrown Zone and PFB Vanish to discourage potential ingrowns as well as Splinter Tweezers to lift those hairs up if they get stuck.

Start exfoliating as soon as it is comfortable to do so. Please keep exfoliating gloves sanitized by washing and drying often. Loofa’s can harbor bacteria and mold so we do not encourage you to use them for exfoliation.
